23 May 2010, Isle of Wight, UK – Gurit, a leading global supplier of composite materials and technical solutions to the global Wind Energy market will be showcasing its latest product innovations this year at Wind Power 2010 (Dallas, USA) from 23rd – 26th May on stand 16023.
With plans to broaden its offering to Wind Energy customers and in particular to the wind turbine blade manufacturers employing infusion technology, Gurit has acquired Suzhou Red Maple Wind, a world-wide leading manufacturer of moulds for the manufacture of wind turbine blades. Founded in 2008, Suzhou Red Maple Wind is a market leading Chinese mould manufacturer specialising in the production of high quality wind blade moulds at competitive prices and with short lead-times, traditionally supplying its moulds predominantly to the Chinese rotor blade manufacturers. With plans to expand both its product and customer portfolio beyond infusion technology moulds and beyond China, Red Maple, the tooling business of Gurit has successfully started to export its moulds globally.
With over 15 years experience in the global Wind Energy market Gurit has developed a broad range of award winning products and solutions for the Wind Energy Market and is unique in covering both infusion and prepreg blade technology and being capable of supplying all the relevant materials needed for building a composite blade.
The successful creation of a large composite structure needs specialist knowledge of structural design, materials technology and composite processing. Gurit is in the unique position of possessing all of these disciplines in one integrated technology centre, maximising the potential for innovation and rapid development of technology solutions. What ever the blade technology, Gurit has the product and development capability to meet the customers requirements and expectations.
Staff will be available at the show to discuss this year’s product portfolio.
Spabond 340LV – High performance adhesive for bonding large wind turbine blades
Spabond 340LV is a high performance adhesive for bonding large wind turbine blades. It is a cost-effective system with high fatigue/crack resistance and 10% lower density than competitive glass filled systems.
Spabond 340LV is Germanischer Lloyd approved and over 11,000 blades, 40m plus, have been bonded using Spabond 340LV providing a proven track record of performance and durability.
The system has a simple 2:1 mix ratio by weight and volume and has been specifically designed to retain thixotropy when being mixed/pumped at high output rates. Spabond 340LV is available in a range of sizes from convenient 900ml cartridges for finishing/repair, to 200 litre drums for machine mixing/dispense.
G-PET – Recyclable Structural Foam for Wind Energy
G-PET has been developed as part of Gurit’s commitment to reduce the cost of renewable energy through composite product innovation for the Wind Energy market.
G-PET improves the economics of wind turbine manufacture by offering reduced cost throughout the blade lifecycle. A highly efficient manufacturing process using cost effective raw materials that were more traditionally used in textile fibres or plastic drinks bottles, combined with an automatic, high yield extrusion process, results in an improved cost base over more traditional materials.
Other advantages include:
- Consistent and repeatable manufacturing process giving predictable properties and performance in line with "Six Sigma" thinking
- A product that is not subject to the same fluctuations of supply and demand as Balsa
- Recyclable, reducing the cost of waste
- Low resin uptake relative to Balsa
- Available in China in sheet and kit form
- Mechanical properties meeting customer specifications
Corecell™
Corecell™ is one of the leading structural foam core materials in wind turbine blade construction. It has become widely accepted for the construction of large, high performance structures. The Corecell™ product range is suitable for a wide range of demanding structural applications and different composite manufacturing processes, Corecell™ is fully compatible with polyester, vinylester, and epoxy resins, as well as all commonly used epoxy prepreg systems.
Corecell T-Foam
Corecell T-Foam has been developed as a technological step-change from traditional PVC and Balsa structural core. It is ideal for applications where loads are less dynamic in nature, such as in the construction of wind turbines shells and is an outstanding core material in every application where balsa or X-PVC is commonly used, providing as it does, high mechanical toughness and thermal stability giving excellent fatigue characteristics, reliability and service life. Corecell™ T-Foam shares the benefits of SAN chemistry common to all Corecell™ products.
